At Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, fall isn't quite right without getting out on the prairie to harvest seed. We invite you to Perkins Prairie Preserve, a peaceful, rare remnant prairie hidden in a little pocket of Greene County, Iowa. Come to hear the story of how the previous landowners, Carrol Perkins and Karen Voge-Perkins cared for the land, their decision for permanent protection and what has happened since. We'll then get out on the land to collect prairie seed and end the day at Deal's Orchard, about a mile away, to drink apple cider and enjoy the fall. Thanks to Wells Fargo in Jefferson — we’re teaming up with them to make this day happen! Where: Perkins Prairie Preserve, across the road to the west from Seven Hills County Park, just outside Jefferson. Click here for directions. When: Saturday, October 1st from 9 - 11:30 a.m. Join us at Deal's Orchard following the event for apple cider and other treats. Details: No experience necessary. All equipment provided. Light refreshments and water provided. Please wear long pants, sturdy shoes and bring a re-fillable water bottle. To RSVP or with questions, contact Mary Runkel, INHF volunteer coordinator, at mrunkel@inhf.org or 515-288-1846, ext. 17.
