Arlene Janning of Carroll, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll.

Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Music will be by Marcy Anderson as pianist, Sherry Loughran as song leader and the St. Lawrence choir. Lectors will be Arlene's granddaughters Ashley Hanson and Kylee Douglas. Gift bearers will be Arlene's granddaughters Brianna Hanson and Brandi Strohmeyer. Eucharistic ministers will be Peg Scheidt, Ann Christiansen and Jean Knobbe. Casket bearers will be Arlene's grandsons Jerome Remm, Jordan Remm, Erik Douglas, Joe Hanson, Taylor Hanson and Luke Janning. Private family burial will be Tuesday at St. Michael Cemetery in West Point, Neb.

Friends may call at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. Monday. There will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian wake service at 6:30 p.m. by St. Lawrence Parish.

The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday when visitation will resume.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for St. Lawrence Parish or Holy Spirit Parish.

Arlene Ann, daughter of Frank and Catherine (Putjenter) Surman was born Nov. 27, 1932, at West Point, Neb. Arlene graduated from Guardian Angels School in West Point.

Following her formal education Arlene married George Remm at St. Mary Catholic Church in West Point. To this union were four children, Ronnie, Gerry, Lou Ann and Donna. George died in January 1961, and Arlene raised her family in the West Point community and also worked part-time at the Veterans Club.

In 1967 she met Bernie Janning from Carroll. The couple later married and made their home in Carroll and had one child, Darrin. Arlene did the books for their terrazzo and tile business and also assisted with other aspects of the business. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and canning the fruits of her labors.

Arlene had a deep devotion to her faith and loved her entire family dearly. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll and formerly a member of St. Mary Parish in West Point, Neb.

Survivors include her husband, Bernie Janning of Carroll; her children: Gerry Remm and wife Brenda of Arlington, Neb., Lou Ann Carter and husband Rick of Lincoln, Neb., Donna Hanson and husband Darin of Lincoln, Neb., and Darrin Janning and friend Sheila Kelly of Carroll; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; her step-children: Sheila Lach of Treasure Island, Fla., Kevin Janning of Omaha, Neb., and Kreg Janning and wife Katherine of Richmond, Va.; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Darlene Wortman of West Point, Neb., Katie Surman of West Point, Neb., John (Mary Ann) Janning of Carroll, Earnest (Diane) Janning of Glidden, Lowell (Julia) Janning of Glidden, Kenneth Janning of Carroll, Lois (Dan) Mein of Leavenworth, Kan., Mary Lou Janning of Carroll, and Art Becker of Charter Oak; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; first husband George Remm; her son Ronald Remm; her stepson Bernard Troy Janning; her sister, Deloris Wortman and her twin sister Kathleen Bunn; her brothers: Norbert Surman and Wilfred Surman; her in-laws: Dorothy Becker, Fritz Wortman, Harold Bunn, Jerry Janning, Louise (Darol) Grossman, Lawrence (Jean) Janning and June Janning.
