Armour McCarty, 92, died Monday, July 23, 2012 at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City.  

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lake City Union Church in Lake City with Rev. Betty Weidert officiating and burial in Lake City Cemetery.  

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City is handling the arrangements.

Armour was born on the family farm on Oct. 3, 1919, to William and Lula (Hasty) McCarty and graduated from Lohrville High School in 1938.  He married LaVon Heim on Feb. 12, 1941, at LaVon’s grandparents’ home, and together they celebrated 71 years of marriage.  

Armour worked as a farmer until they moved into town in 1971, after which he worked at Bowie Manufacturing in Lake City, helped LaVon operate the Capri Theater, and maintained the Lake City Cemetery for several years.   

Armour is survived by his wife, LaVon, of Lake City; daughters, Wanda (Dee) Lindsey of Jefferson and Twin Lakes, and Jeanne (Dave Nesbit) Frederick of Des Moines; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia (Harold) DeLong of Yetter, and Marilyn Owen of Lake City; and brother, Bill McCarty Jr., of California.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Ruth in infancy; and brothers, Vaughn and Merle McCarty.
