Aileen Bennett Murphy, 73, of DeKalb, Ill., died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at home.
Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with the Rev. Van McCalister of St. Francis Anglican Church, Peoria/Dunlap, officiating. Cremation is by Anderson Funeral Home Crematory.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Anderson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Aileen Bennett-Murphy Memorial Fund, sent in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, Ill. 60115.
Born Oct. 25, 1940, in Carroll, Iowa, a daughter of Orville and Marie (Barry) Murphy, Aileen was an avid gardener who loved crafts and reading. She was a 1958 graduate of Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll and a 1963 graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. Aileen was a member of the Southern Poverty Law Center.
In retirement, she worked at the State Street Laundry in Sycamore.
She is survived by her sons, Ted McCarron of DeKalb and Bill (Cecile) McCarron of Carbondale, Ill.; daughters, Jacqui (Van) McCalister of Peoria, Ill., and Jenny (Kash) Krishnarao of Jacksonville, Fla.; and grandchildren, J.D., Zach, Drew, Kevin, Tara, Torin and Ian.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Noel Vojslavek.
