Donald Gemberling, 85, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Lanesboro United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lexie Kirkpatrick officiating.  Burial will be in Lanesboro Cemetery with military honors provided by Lake City American Legion Post 31 and VFW 1899.  Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City.

Donald Charles Gemberling Jr. was born on July 3, 1927, in Boone, Iowa, to Donald C. and Sarah (Canfield) Gemberling.  He graduated in 1945 from Mechanicsville, Iowa, and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946.  

On Aug. 29, 1948, Don married Jean Kuebler at United Methodist Church in Lanesboro.  He worked as a farmer for 19 years and an electrician for 35 years before retiring in 1998.  

Don was a musician and enjoyed playing in a band for many years.  He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed camping, especially in Canada where he and Jean camped for over 50 years.

Don is survived by his wife, Jean, of Lake City; son, Jim (Deb) Gemberling of Sloan; daughters, Carol (Pat) Hardy of Lohrville, Crystal Gemberling of Sumner, Wash., and Patti (John) Daisy of Lake City; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Carl of Lohrville; and sisters, Helen (Ted) Denman and Jean Meyer both of Tucson, Ariz.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard; and great-granddaughter, Harper Gemberling.
