Dorene C. Gute, 73, of Carroll, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Father Timothy Johnson as celebrant. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll where there will be a rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. by the parish. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 a.m. Friday when visitation will resume.

Organist for the Mass will be Barb McDermott, soloist will be John Wagner, and the Holy Spirit Choir will sing.  Lector for the Mass will be Chelsea Klocke.  Gift bearers will be Jennifer Reicks, Cassie Gute and Taylor Hulsing.  Mass servers will be  Jordan and Nicole Seidl. Eucharistic ministers will be Alice Rupiper and Joyce Masching.  Casket bearers will be Cory Gute, Dillon Rupiper, Chase Rupiper, Miles Rupiper, Kody Gute, Kameron Gute, Justin Seidl, Noah Seidl, and Trevor Hulsing.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Born Jan. 24, 1939 at Willey, she was the daughter of Clem and Florence (Wiskus) Balk.  Dorene grew up in Templeton and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1957.  Following high school she worked for Waters Department Store.  She was married to Larry Gute on May 9, 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton by Father Harpenaue.  Following their marriage the couple made their home in Carroll where she and her husband owned and operated Gute Tree Service.  Dorene was a member of Holy Spirit Parish where she served on the church guild.  She enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, music, spending time at their cabin in the woods near Churdan, and being with her family and grandchildren.

Dorene is survived by her husband Larry; four daughters: Deb Klocke and her husband Ken of Mount Carmel, Pam Rupiper and her husband Doug of Carroll, Brenda Seidl and her husband Tim of Dedham, and Kris Hulsing and her husband Kevin of West Des Moines; three sons: Dan Gute and his wife Mary Ann of Guthrie Center; Doug Gute and his wife Shelly of Carroll, and Don Gute and his wife Tami of Carroll; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister Marlene Brincks and her husband Melvin of Roselle; four brothers: LeRoy Balk and his wife Judy of Templeton, Ray Balk and his wife Fay of Odessa, Mo., Gary Balk of Manning and Terry Balk of Council Bluffs; four sisters-in-law: Lucille Sandquist and her husband Charles of Carroll, Marilyn Schramm and her husband George of Papillion, Neb.,  Juanita Bruno and her husband Joe of Marseilles, Ill., and Arlene Brooks of Haines, Alaska; and four brothers-in-law: Alvin Gute of Solon, Iowa, Vernon Gute and his wife Linda of Modale, Iowa, Dennis Gute and his wife Ann of Carroll, and Eugene Gute of Afton, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

Dorene was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Thelma Grimsman and Louise Sloth, and a brother LaVern.
