Edward Heisterkamp, 68, of Coon Rapids, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at Taylor House in Des Moines after he had been in declining health.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids, with the Rev. Andrew W. Hoffman presiding, assisted by Deacon Louie Meiners. Lectors will be Shannon Heisterkamp and Jill Heisterkamp. Gift bearers will be Mariah Heisterkamp and Alexis Heisterkamp. Casket bearers will be Marty Dorpinghaus, Doug Halbur, Tom Kokenge, Brian Heisterkamp, Curt Hike and Bob Babe. Honorary casket bearers will be Ed's grandchildren.

Music will be "On Eagle's Wings," "Here I Am, Lord," "Prayer of St. Francis" and "How Great Thou Art" by the Annunciation choir and accompanist Faye Seidl.

Burial with military honors by Gurney Parker Post 357 will be at Union Township Cemetery, Coon Rapids.

Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Ohde Funeral Home in Coon Rapids with rosary at 4 p.m. and prayer service at 6 p.m.

Edward William, son of Edger and Dorothy (Tegels) Heisterkamp, was born Oct. 26, 1944, at Carroll, Iowa. He attended St. Bernard School in Breda and later earned his GED while serving the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. After returning to Iowa, he married Mary Ann Dorpinghaus on Aug. 20, 1966. Four children were born to this union.

Ed worked at the Breda Creamery, Farm Service and several jobs in Carroll before moving to Coon Rapids in 1971. He began trucking in 1978 for Crouse Cartage Company. In 1990 he was an owner/operator leasing to Crouse Cartage Company. In 2002 he retired and was on disability.

Ed was a member of Annunciation Parish in Coon Rapids. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion and Disabled Veterans of America. He held several offices in the local and state American Legion and most recently was serving as adjutant of Gurney Parker Post 357. He was involved with the Legion bingo night. Ed enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping and playing cards.

Ed is survived by his wife, Mary Heisterkamp, of Coon Rapids; children Deanna (Rod) Frank of Manning, Patricia Heisterkamp of Manning, Edwin (Shannon) Heisterkamp of Carroll and Eric (Christy) Heisterkamp of Glidden; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; siblings Ronnie (Mary Jane) Heisterkamp of Morrow, Ga., Ralph (Linda) Heisterkamp of Lake City and Marilyn (Rudy) Babe of Breda; brothers-in-law Paul Hike Sr. of Scranton and Harlan Underberg of Lidderdale; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother Donnie Heisterkamp; two sisters, Charlotte Hike and Donna Rae Underberg; and sister-in-law Nancy Heisterkamp.
