Elizabeth L. Beckman, 91, of Lake View, Iowa, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 1st Congregational United Church of Christ in Lake View, with the Rev. Randy Russom officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Union Cemetery in Humboldt, Iowa.
Farber & Otteman Funeral Home of Lake View is in charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth was born Nov. 26, 1921, to Fred and Lillian (Taylor) Spencer at Fort Dodge, Iowa. She attended Gilmore City Elementary and High Schools. She married Wilbur Law on Sept. 23, 1949, in Rutland, Iowa.
After Elizabeth married Wilbur, they engaged in farming and also had a trucking and corn-shelling business. Elizabeth was branch manager of Sarah Coventry Jewelry. After Wilbur's sudden death in 1968, Elizabeth met Leonard Beckman from Lake View, and they married in 1970. They lived in Lake View. During this time Elizabeth had several part-time jobs such as the Lake View Liquor Store, Nelson's Health Food Store and Skogmos, and she also worked at the school.
Elizabeth loved to dance, she gave dance lessons in her earlier days, played the organ, and participated in the family band. Elizabeth also had memories of playing in the state basketball finals. She enjoyed being with her many friends, playing bingo, and always smiling. Elizabeth lived independently until December 2010, when she suffered a stroke and became a resident at Black Hawk Life Care Center. Elizabeth also was involved in her children's businesses and was known for "Liz's Potato Salad." As a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lake View, Elizabeth was involved with many church events. She loved the Black Hawk Water Carnival and helped with the food stand.
Survivors include her son, Kim Law, of Auburn, Iowa; daughter, Becky Law, of Glidden, Iowa; nieces and nephews, other family members; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lillian Spencer; husbands Wilbur Law and Leonard Beckman; and sister Elaine Olson.
