Faye Iona Groves, 92, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City.

Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City with Pastor Katie Carlson presiding.

Burial will be at Lake City Cemetery.

Faye, daughter of Gertie "Betty" (DeSart) and Ed Groves, was born Dec. 30, 1920, at her aunt Edna and uncle Hig Higgins' home at Lake City. Betty was at her sister's home making clothes for the baby when Faye decided to arrive. Faye had one older brother, Garth Groves.

Faye lived on a farm east and south of Lake City. She went to country school for eight years, then to Lake City High School for four years.

Faye worked different places from 1938 to December 2012. She worked as a cook, bowling-pin setter, waitress, grocery-store clerk, Iowa Liquor Store clerk in Lake City, housecleaner and Senior Citizen Center site manager. She was a member of the Lake City VFW Auxiliary more than 50 years and served as its treasurer.

Faye enjoyed playing cards and board games, bowling, dancing and helping with church activities.

Faye is survived by her son, Melvin (Donna) Thompson of Belton, Mo.; two daughters, Barbara (Ray Dean) Garnatz of Spencer, Iowa, and Mary Anne (Denny) Baer of Marshalltown, iowa; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren and another due in June.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Ed Groves; brother, Garth Groves; and a grandson, David Baer.
