George K. Janson, 92, of Fostoria, Ohio, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Fostoria Community Hospital.

Funeral was Thursday morning, Aug. 1, at Hoenig Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry Jones presiding. Committal services took place at Veterans Memorial Chapel of Fountain Cemetery with a flag presentation by the United Veterans of Fostoria, followed by burial.

He was born Aug. 18, 1920, to George and Enda (Cassel) Janson. He married Mariam "Jean" McDonald, they divorced and she survives. He then married Margaret McDowell, and she survives in Fostoria.

Also surviving is a son, Jerry (Jessica) Janson, Carroll, Iowa; daughter, Jodi (Charles) Smenda, Medina, Ohio; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Janson; and a brother, Paul Janson.

George was a teacher, administrator and coach. He coached basketball for Celina High School, Tiffin Columbian, Tiffin University, Portugal, Mohawk and University of Findlay. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame of the University of Findlay, Tiffin University and Tiffin Columbian. He had been the principal of Tiffin East Junior High.

George graduated from Swatara High School in Oberlin, Pa., and continued his education at University of Findlay and Indiana University. He was a member of Christ's Church, Tiffin and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
