Gladys Irene Whitcomb, 98, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Regency Care Center in Norwalk, Iowa.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Highland Township Cemetery, Bayard, Iowa, with Pastor Robert Rogers presiding. Casket bearers will be David Atkin, Dennis Eddy, Rick Lewis, Barry McKibben, William McKibben and Tony Rand.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bayard Church of Christ.
Ohde Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Gladys Irene, daughter of Earl and Maude (McCool) Barrett, was born in Bayard, Iowa, on Dec. 3, 1914. She graduated from Bayard High School in 1932.
Gladys married Glenn Whitcomb on May 23, 1939. She was a farm wife for most of her life and helped with various duties on the farm. She was a talented cook who always made sure there was food on the table. Gladys was a cook at the Bayard Care Center. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Bayard.
Gladys lived in Bayard her whole life until May 2010 when she moved to Regency Assisted Living in Norwalk. She later transferred to Regency Care Center.
Gladys is survived by nephew Barry (JoAnn) McKibben of Cumming, Iowa; niece Shirley McKibben of Des Moines, Iowa; several great-nieces and great-nephews; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; great-great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Glenn; sisters Alice (Howard) Smith and Myrtle (Bill) McKibben; brothers Willard Barrett and Winfred (Grace) Barrett; and nephew Bill McKibben.
