1940-2013

Glen Allen Winn, 72, of The Colony, Texas, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at his home.

There will be a memorial gathering at noon Sunday, Nov. 17, at Cedar Rapids Family Church, 5335 Midway Drive Northwest, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Eulogist will be his nephew Pastor Daniel Winn.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Carroll High School Foundation, P.O. Box 156, Carroll, Iowa 51401, the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.

He was born Nov. 26, 1940, in Carroll to the late Edward and Rose Marie (Otjen) Winn. He attended Carroll Public Schools and graduated from Carroll High School in 1959. He was a star basketball player in high school and juinor college. He graduated from Webster City (Iowa) Junior College in 1961 and Weaver's Airline School, Kansas City, Mo., in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard 1963-69. He married Phyllis Denney on Oct. 16, 1965, at First United Methodist Church in Carroll.

Glen was employed by Ozark Airlines in 1964 at O'Hare Field, Chicago, Ill. At the time of the TWA merger in 1986 he was at the Waterloo, Iowa, airport. In 1988, he transferred to Dallas-Fort Worth airport. After the American Airlines merger, he retired in 2003. During retirment he worked part time at a RaceTrac convenience store and fully retired in 2009.

Glen was an avid sports fan and an enthusiactic fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of The Colony; sons Brad Winn and fiance, Jayna Denton, Frisco, Texas; daughters Stephanie Van Zomeren and Joel, Burnsville, Minn.; grandchildren Chris and Jeanette Van Zomeren; two brothers, Marion "Windy" (Delores) Winn of Marion, Iowa, and Jim Winn also of Marion, Iowa; and six sisters, Arlene Anderson of Carroll, Iowa, Geraldine (Don) Whited of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Corinne (Jerry) Gute of Burnet, Texas, Gloria (Dennis) Ries of Azle, Texas, Mary (Tom) Cota of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Georgia (Steve) Schmickle of Marion, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Lois Ann Winn; and a brother, Donald Winn.
