Gretchen Triplett, 76, of Ames, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
The family will receive friends 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, January 12 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames. Memorial services were Monday, Jan. 13, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames. Burial was at Westside Cemetery, Westside, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Israel Family Hospice House or Calvary United Methodist Church.

Gretchen Helen Triplett was born July 8, 1937, to Nick and Helen (Schoenjahn) Schwarzenbach in Carroll, Iowa. Gretchen worked as a secretary at Iowa State University. Gretchen was a Story County Master Gardener, a member of the Ames Garden Club, Iowa Arboretum, Iowa Gardening Study Program, Story County Genealogical Society, German Genealogical Research Group, Iowa Genealogical Society, National Women's Relief Corps and Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic. She enjoyed singing, giving lectures on the Civil War and volunteered at Israel Family Hospice House, Mary Greeley Medical Center and at the information desk at Ames City Hall.
Her backyard was her oasis: Gretchen carefully planned, planted and maintained her flowers. She loved the outdoors and creating a beautiful space.
Gretchen is survived by her son, T.J. (Carol) Triplett of Burlington, Wis., and their children Tanner and Maddi; her daughter, Elizabeth (Brad) Harken, of Hiawatha, Iowa, and their children, Sarah, of St. Louis, Mo., and Benny, of Australia; her daughter-in-law, Sue Triplett, of Plainfield, Ill., and her children, Nick and Taylor; and her brother, Roger Schwarzenbach, of Lucas, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Matthew.
