Helen "Martie" Roden Gooch, age 89, of Kansas City, Mo., and formerly of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Kansas City.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. A luncheon will follow the service at the Lincoln Club in Glidden. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Angel Flight Central, 10 Richards Road, Kansas City, MO 64116. Martie was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Laurens, Iowa, and was the daughter of Arthur and Sadie (Kester) Cone. She graduated from the Glidden High school in 1942. She was married Leland Roden on Dec. 7, 1947. Martie and Leland owned and operated Glidden Mutual Insurance agency for many years as well as farmed northeast of Glidden. Leland passed away on March 4, 1993. She married Richard Gooch on May 18, 1996, and the couple made their home in Kansas City, Mo. She was member of Antioch Community Church in Kansas City where she was active in women's groups and Bible study. She enjoyed playing the organ, cooking, volunteering with Angel Flight Central, and spending time with her family.

Martie is survived by her husband, Richard Gooch, of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter Kendra Schoeman and her husband Steve of Leawood, Kan.; a son Keith Gooch of Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Regan and Erica.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: John and Ernie Cone; and her husband Leland.
