Inez Ohlinger, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Regency Park Care Center in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian burial was Monday, Oct. 22, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan with the Rev. Father Randy Schon officiating. Burial was at St. Patricks Catholic Cemetery west of Churdan. Musical selections were played by organist Richard Carey.
Casket bearers were Dan Schon, Dave Schon, Dave Sporrer, Gary Sporrer, Brian Tiernan and Mike Reyes.
Brown Funeral Home in Churdan was in charge of arrangements.
Inez J. Ohlinger, daughter of Frank and Clara (Kemper) Sporrer, was born Jan. 10, 1925, at Templeton, Iowa and departed this life October 18, 2012 at the Regency Park Care Center in Carroll, Iowa.
Inez grew up in Templeton and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School. She attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and taught school for one year. On Aug. 17, 1947, Inez Sporrer married Owen “Bud” Ohlinger at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. Two children were born to this union. The family lived in Templeton and later in Algona. In 1969, Bud and Inez moved to Churdan where Bud was manager of the Farmers’ Co-op.
Inez developed multiple sclerosis and was faithfully cared for by her husband for 54 years. In 2006, due to her health condition, Inez became a resident at Regency Park Care Center in Carroll. Her husband, Bud, died in 2007, after 60 years of marriage.
Inez was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Inez enjoyed reading and cross-stitching.
Inez is survived by her two children, Joyce (Mrs. Greg Clawson) of Ankeny and Gary of Carroll; three granddaughters, Jill (Mike) Reyes, Sarah (Chad) Burgess and Ann (Brian) Tiernan; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Vernice Sporrer of Templeton; and a sister Dorothy Schon of Glidden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Lawrence Sporrer.
