Irma was born Feb. 17, 1917, in Tenstrike, Minn., daughter of Walter and Amanda (Patterson) Gregg. She was the last of 13 children. Her family moved to Iowa when Irma was 6 years old. Irma graduated from Lake City High School in 1935 and taught in country school for three years. She retired from substitute teaching in 1992. Irma was a member of the Woodlawn Christian Church and was present for the first service and was baptized in the new church.

On May 21, 1938, Irma married Lubbert DeVries at the Woodlawn Christian Church parsonage. Irma and Lubbert started their life in a home near Rockwell City, where they welcomed their first child, Dale Dean. Through Irma and Lubbert's union they welcomed four more children, Dennis Dee, MaryAnn, Richard Duane and Delroy Kent. Irma and Lubbert and their family moved to different farms throughout their marriage until their final home was built in September 1978. Lubbert and Irma recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary and have had many great memories to share over the years.

Irma spent much of her time helping anyone who needed any help. She cooked for many people, baby sat and helped Lubbert on the farm, as well as serving as caretaker for many family friends, adding to her already busy schedule with teaching.

Irma is survived by her husband, Lubbert of Lake City; children Dean DeVries of Wheat Ridge, Colo., Denny DeVries of Rugby, N.D., MaryAnn (Martin) Wanner of Agency, Iowa, Dick (Diane) DeVries of Wheat Ridge, Colo., and Delroy (Elma) DeVries of Lake City; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Amanda Gregg; all of her siblings; grandchildren Kinsey and Casey Graber; and numerous nieces and nephews.
