Jack Thomas Rogers, 80, of Manning, Iowa, died Friday afternoon, April 18, 2014, at his home.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 24, at United Methodist Church in Manning, with the Rev. Angie Loomis officiating

Congregational music with accompanist Janet Myer will be "In the Garden," "Hymn of Promise" and "Take Me Out to the Ball Game."

Casket bearers will be Rob Dammann, Rick Dammann, Rick Spoelstra, Evan Dammann, Todd Stadtlander and Ken Eischeid. Honorary casket bearers will be Amber Elwell, Jennifer Johnson, Bret Elwell, Terry Gordon, Willard Farley and Emmanuel Gordon.

Burial with military honors will be at Nishnabotna Cemetery, Manilla, Iowa, with military honors by American Legion Emil Ewoldt Post 22 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Ohde Funeral Home, Manning, and will resume at 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Jack's family requests that memorial donations be made in his honor to the charity of donor's choice.

Jack Thomas, son of Fay L. and Merytel M. (White) Rogers, was born Nov. 11, 1933, at Purcell, Okla. When he was 2 years old, the family moved to California, and he attended El Monte High School, graduating in 1952.

In 1960 Jack married Sandra Savage at Baldwin Park, and two daughters were born to this union. Jack married Kae Rene Farley in 1981 at Rowland Heights. On May 8, 1953, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He served at Fort Ord, Ft. Lewis, Wash., and in Europe with a military police company. Jack reached the rank of private first class before his discharge in April 1955. Jack worked as a forklift and warehouse man for Avon Products in Pasadena for 27 years. He took a medical retirement at age 55 due to heart-bypass surgery. Jack and Kae moved to her hometown of Manning in 2008.

Jack was a member of United Methodist Church, the American Legion and VFW in Manning. In his spare time he enjoyed baseball and other sports and working on his lawn. Jack was a lifetime L.A. Angels and Boston Celtics fan. He could be found at Deb's Corner Café most mornings having coffee with his buddies.

For many years Jack suffered from heart and other health issues.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents.

Jack is survived by his wife Kae Rene Rogers of Manning; daughters Sherri Bromley of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Paula Knotts of Clayton, N.Y.; six grandchildren: Jennifer Johnson, Jenelle Johnson, Nikki Vandeventer, Michael Catenzaro, Carly Catenzaro and Dalton Cooper; four great-grandchildren: Brandon West, Jackson Johnson, Cassidy Johnson and Savannah Johnson; stepdaughter Karen Elwell of Harlan (fiancé Terry Gordon); step-grandchildren: Amber Elwell and Bret Elwell; sisters Betty Lewis of Anaheim, Calif., and Rose Smith of Conway, Ark.; mother-in-law Jean Farley of Manning; brother-in-law Willard Farley (Becky) of Dover, Ark.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
