Jane E. Barker, 74, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and formerly of Carroll, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013, in Rock Rapids.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at United Methodist Church of Rock Rapids, with the Rev. Marcia Sangel presiding.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Born April 24, 1939, in Storm Lake, Iowa, Jane was a daughter of Paul and Helen (Jolliffe) Turner. She attended elementary school in Storm Lake and Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1957. She earned an education degree at the University of South Dakota in 1961.

She married Ken Barker on June 16, 1962, at her parents' home in Carroll.

She taught for 39 years at Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids, retiring in 2000. She substitute taught for years after her retirement.

She was a member of United Methodist Church of Rock Rapids.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Sorority, Phi Chapter. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, walking, reading, community service and trips to the lakes. She especially loved doting over her children and grandchildren.

Jane is survived by her husband, Ken, of Rock Rapids; a son, Brett Allen Barker, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a daughter, Brooke Lynne, and her husband, Kyle Barber, of Fort Dodge; four grandchildren; two brothers, Marshall and his wife, Rhonda, Crane of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Steve and his wife, Rhonda Crane, of Chicago, Ill.; and a sister, Beverly, and her husband, Fred Hendrickson, of Redmond, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Turner; her mother, Helen Mailliard; and her stepfather, Ralph Crane.
