Born Sept. 11, 1961, at Jefferson, Iowa, he was the son of Virgil and Rozetta (Moore) Irlbeck. During his lifetime he resided in Carroll and Maple River, Iowa, Hawaii and Colorado. He attended St. Lawrence School, Our Lady of Mount Carmel School and Kuemper Catholic High School.

Jeff joined the Marine Corps in 1982, received basic training in California and was stationed as a military guard at the Pearl Harbor Memorial, Oahu, Hawaii. Upon leaving the military he lived in Hawaii and later moved to Denver, Colo., and worked in building construction. He moved back to Carroll and worked in home construction for several years. He has been employed by Chicago and North Western and Union Pacific Railroads for the last 20 years. Jeff was diagnosed with cancer in January 2012 and received extensive treatment at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll and Mayo Clinic and Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Jeff enjoyed playing video games with his sister Lisa and his nephews Sean and Justin, building advanced remote-control vehicles, owning a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, collecting motorcycle memorabilia, and collecting decorative lights. He was a NASCAR fan, and he enjoyed helping his dad with vehicles and yard work. Jeff also enjoyed researching and helping his mom with her perennial garden. He was exceedingly knowledgeable in technology and helping everyone who had problems.
