John "Jack" Mapel, 84, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City with burial at Lake City Cemetery.

John "Jack" Mapel was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Lake City to Lulu Mapel. He graduated from Lake City High School in 1947, and on June 30, 1949, Jack married Corrinne Chresecos at her home in Rockwell City. He was a self-employed welder and mechanic for many years before retiring in 2003.

Jack is survived by his daughter Lucinda (Joe) Smith of Lohrville; grandson Matthew (Jamie) Smith and their children Avery and Hadley of Norwood Young America, Minn., granddaughter Allison (Seth) Jones and their children Jack and Samantha of Centennial, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Corrinne, sister Virginia Lane and brothers Don, Walter and JR Mapel.
