Karen "Kay" Broich, 71, of Carroll, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll with Father Timothy Schott as celebrant.

Eucharistic ministers will be Lori Snyder, Dennis Schleisman and Jean Knobbe. Gift bearers will be Jodi Jones and Robyn Clevenger. Lector will be Erin Lenz. Music will be by Sue Feilmeier and Mike Bolton. Songs will be "Be Not Afraid," "Ave Maria," "In the Garden" and "Eagles Wings".

Casket bearers will be Ken Broich, Adam Broich, Dan Broich, Trevor Feilmeier, Ryan Kriel, Randy Kriel and Tanner Broich. Honorary casket bearers will be Kay's grandchildren Amber, Courtney, Bailey, Kiki, Kylie and her niece Renee Kriel. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. by St. Lawrence Parish. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 a.m. Thursday when visitation will resume. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Kay's name, and memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church.

Born July 5, 1942, in Carroll, Iowa, she was a daughter of Orrin and Cecelia (Feller) Buddin. Kay was a lifelong resident of Carroll and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1960. She was married to Duane Broich on Oct. 28, 1961, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church by Father Fangman. Kay worked for Crouse Cartage, Mr. D's in Glidden, Don's Place in Carroll for 13 years, and Carroll Health Center for 22 years, retiring in 2006.

She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll. She enjoyed camping, fishing, going to coffee with her friends, bowling, playing cards, and attending her children's and grandchildren's events. Kay was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family and her grandchildren.

Kay is survived by her husband, Duane, of Carroll; two sons: Jeffrey Broich of Bellevue, Neb., and Brian Broich and his wife Nancy of Grand Island, Neb.; two daughters: Laurie Colbert and her husband Jack of Lanesboro, Iowa, and Lee Feilmeier and her husband Mark of Breda, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Dan Broich and his wife Tania of Glidden, Iowa, Amber Jenkins and her husband Michael of Sac City, Iowa, Courtney Feilmeier of Carroll, Bailey Feilmeier and Trevor Feilmeier of Breda, Iowa, and Nicole, Kylie and Tanner Broich of Grand Island, Neb.; four great-grandchildren: Taylor, Dayton, Kalee and Trey; two brothers: Roger Buddin his wife Wanda of Ollie, Iowa, and Russell Buddin and his wife Deann of Lake View, Iowa; two sisters: Barbara "Patty" Dilliner of Audubon, Iowa, and Georgene Buddin of Carroll; a brother-in-law Dean Broich and his wife Shan of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters-in-law: Janice Naberhaus and her husband Richard of Denison, Iowa, and Carolyn Reineke and her husband LeRoy of Scranton, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Larry and Everett "Butch" Buddin; and a sister Marge Janssen.
