Kristina Becker-Duroe, daughter of Paul and Arlene (Auen) Barnhart, was born Nov. 27, 1960, in Indiana, Pa. She grew up on the family farm in Blairsville, Pa., doing chores and also worked at Westco Eggs Inc., down the road. She attended Derry High School where she was a member of the color guard. After graduating in 1979 she earned her associate's degree in broadcasting in Boston, Mass. Kristina moved to Omaha, Neb., where she worked as a DJ at a radio station.

In the summer of 1988, Kristina married Joe Becker. They lived in the Coon Rapids area. She worked at Hy-Vee, Pella Corporation and Delavan in Carroll through the years. Kristina then moved to Albia where she worked at Hy-Vee.

Kristina loved gardening, ceramics and cooking. She was a fan of country western music and the Eagles. Along with her family she was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. As a young child, she read the dictionary often and as a result developed a great vocabulary. Kristina will be remembered for her love of children and had a special place in her heart for animals. Above all, she enjoyed the simple things in life.
