Linus Eischeid, 86, of Coon Rapids, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids.
Visitation and prayers will be Monday, March 11, after 4 p.m. with a vigil service and rosary starting at 6 p.m. at Ohde Twit Funeral Home in Carroll.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, at St. Augustine Church in Halbur.
Celebrant will be the Rev. Steven Broderson. Lector will be Dan Eischeid.
Gift bearers will be Lauren Galardi, Marissa Galardi and Jennifer Eischeid.
Music will be "Gift of Finest Wheat," You Are Near," "I Am the Bread of Life" and "Be Not Afraid" by the St. Augustine choir and accompanist Julie Sibbel.
Casket bearers will be Matthew Eischeid, Darren Eischeid, Eric Halbur, Aaron Halbur and Kevin Eischeid.
Honorary casket bearers will be David Eischeid, Dan Eischeid, Doug Eischeid, Duane Eischeid and Dennis Eischeid.
Burial will be at St. Augustine Cemetery in Halbur.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Parish in Halbur.
Linus Albert, son of Peter J. and Lena (Truhe) Eischeid, was born Sept. 1, 1926, at Halbur. He went to St. Augustine School in Halbur and then farmed with his family.
On Sept. 5, 1951, Linus was married to Joan Bernholtz at St. Mary Church in Willey by Father H.J. Dries. They were the parents of seven children and made their home in Halbur.
Before his marriage he had started his own tiling business that he ran until 1966 when he started at Iowa Beef Processors. In 1972 he went to work at Pre-Cast Company for the next nine years. From 1987 to 2003 he was the janitor for Holy Trinity Church in Halbur. Linus enjoyed being around people, visiting, playing cards and other games. He inherited his mother's green thumb when it came to growing flowers and planting his many gardens. He collected cans, listened to music and thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with his children and grandchildren
Linus was a lifelong member of St. Augustine Parish and the Men's Club in Halbur. When he moved to Carroll he became a member of Holy Spirit Parish and the Men's Club.
Survivors include his wife Joan Eischeid of Coon Rapids; seven children: David Eischeid (Kathy) of Omaha, Neb.; Dan Eischeid (Maureen) of LaVista, Neb.; Marilyn Halbur (Jeff) of Carroll; Doug Eischeid (Pam) of LaVista, Neb.; Marcia Galardi (Greg) of Nebraska City, Neb.; Duane Eischeid of Carroll; and Dennis Eischeid of Carroll; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters: Marlene Willenborg (Ed) of Carroll; Julie Baumhover of Carroll; and Bernadette Harrison (Jim) of Omaha, Neb. and sisters-in-law Shirley Eischeid of Carroll and Marie Eischeid of Halbur.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers Edward Eischeid; Fred (Waunita) Eischeid; Melvin (Pearl) Eischeid and Wilfred Eischeid; sisters Elaine Bolster and Eleanor (Alex) Irlmeier; brothers-in-law Art Baumhover and Alex (Eleanor) Irlmeier; and sister-in-law Pearl Eischeid.
