Laurene Dowling, 92, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City with Pastor Joe Roberts officiating and burial in Lake City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lampe Funeral Home.
Laurene Aurelia Dowling was born May 3, 1921 to Theodore and Aletha (Jenks) Bowers. She graduated from Lake City High School in 1939 and later attended St. Anthony Hospital School of Nursing in Carroll to get her LPN degree. She worked at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City as an LPN and Pomeroy Care Center in Pomeroy as a nursing home administrator for several years. On Aug. 13, 1939, Laurene married Clifford Dowling in Lake City. She was a member of Woodlawn Christian Church in Lake City.
Laurene is survived by her children, Wayne (Sally) Dowling of Lake City, Tom (Arleen) Dowling of Lebanon, Tenn., Jane (Mark) Toyne of St. Joseph, Mo., and Paul (Allene) Dowling of Lohrville; daughter-in-law Shirley Burd of Rockwell City; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several half siblings from Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford, in 2001; sons Donald and Keith; daughter Dianne; and sisters, Lois McCoy and Lavonne Hucka Peterson.
