Leonard Feld, 90, of Afton, Iowa, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Afton. Burial will be at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in Afton, with military graveside rites by John B. Parks Afton VFW Post 8882. Father Leonard Kenkel and Father John Acrea will officiate.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at Powers Funeral Home in Afton, with family receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and a Christian prayer service at 7 p.m.

Memorials are to the St. Edwards Catholic Church and the Afton Care Center Auxiliary or Afton Betterment Committee.

Leonard Leo Feld was born Nov. 29, 1923, in Carroll, Iowa, to Henry John Feld and Mary M. (Kramer). He graduated from Carroll High School in 1941 and entered the U.S. Army on May 5, 1945, serving until June 27, 1946.

On Jan. 12, 1948, he married Harriett Gail (Powers) in Fort Dodge. They lived in Piper until 1952 when they moved to Pomeroy. In the fall of 1958, they moved to Rockwell City where they farmed and started Feld's Quality Eggs, which they owned and operated for 11 years. In 1973, they moved north of Afton where they lived and operated a diversified farm, and he was very active in his community. Leonard was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Afton Care Center Auxiliary, Afton Care Center Board president, the Afton Betterment Committee, Farm Bureau, FOCUS Couple through the Catholic Church, volunteer with the Afton Congregate Meals and Building Project, Iowa Pork Producers and the Iowa Beef Producers.

Leonard is survived by three daughters, Laura Feld (husband Stan Mushaw) of Woodbridge, Va., Marian Feld of Des Moines and Margaret Kubat of Omaha, Neb.; sister-in-law Margaret Feld of Rockwell City, Iowa; and two grandsons, Jonathan (wife Kayla) Feld of Bloomington, Minn., and Michael Mushaw of Woodbridge, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gail Feld in 2006, brother Ernest Feld and sister Eleanor Borgmeier.
