Lillian Sophie Anna Haase, 94, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Huebner Funeral Home in Denison is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Lillian Sophie Anna Haase was born Nov. 20, 1918, a daughter of Arthur and Margaret Sahl.

Lillian grew up on the family farm near Denison and received her education in a rural school. She was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She was a caregiver and housekeeper for various families after she completed school.

On Dec. 22, 1946, Lillian married Vernon Haase at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple made their home on a farm near Denison and were blessed with the birth of two daughters. She was a loving wife and mother and a devoted Christian. Lillian helped her husband on the farm, milking cows and raising chickens. She worked in her flower and vegetable gardens and canned much of her proceeds. She enjoyed reading and watching CNN to keep up on world news. She had a positive outlook on life and made friends easily and established wonderful relationships throughout her life, and even more since moving to the Kennybrook Village in Grimes.

Survivors include: two daughters, Cheryl and husband, Jerry; and Cindy and husband, Gary; two grandchildren, Tyler and his wife, Dawn; and Gayle and her husband, Kip; four great-grandchildren, Zach, Katie, Annemarie and Elizabeth; one sister-in-law, Lavern; one brother-in-law, Edmund; other relatives and friends.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 2006; one brother, Leslie; a sister, Mildred; one sister-in-law, Violet; and a brother-in-law, Virgil.
