Lorna Mae, daughter of Obe E. and Mary E. (Van Cleave) Allen, was born April 14, 1921, south of Jamaica, Iowa. She started school in Jamaica, later attending Maple Grove No. 9 in Dallas County and Greenbrier No. 9 in Greene County. She graduated from Bayard High School in 1939. After completing her education, Lorna worked for various families in the area.

On Aug. 16, 1941, Lorna married Delbert "Hap" Palmer. They worked for area farmers before "Hap" was drafted into the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, they continued to farm for others until purchasing their own farm in 1954 south of Coon Rapids. After 41 years on the farm they moved into Coon Rapids in August 1995.

Lorna was a member of the Needle Club in Orange Township, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a homemaker and helpmate on the farm. When her children participated in sports and other school activities she joyfully supported them. In her spare time she quilted, sewed, gardened and tended to her flowers.

Lorna remained independent after the death of her husband in 2000. When her health began to fail in the spring of 2013, she moved to Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids.

Lorna is survived by her children: Delbert Jr. (Connie) of Coon Rapids, Arnold Palmer (Elaine) of Lidderdale and Helena, Mont., Verna (Bill) Weichman of Carmel, Ind., and Jerald Palmer of Iowa City; four granddaughters Gwendolyn "Wendy" Penzes, Jaqueline "Jackie" Weichman, Christy Rusdal and Quinn Palmer; five great-grandchildren Kasandra Penzes, Sidney, Casey, Leah and Jacob Rusdal; sisters June Eckhart of Boone and Shirley Price of Indianola; brother Keith (Sharon) Allen of Green Valley, Ariz.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
