Mary Petronella, daughter of Henry and Mary (Snyder) Underberg, was born Aug. 20, 1917, in Larchwood, Iowa. The family later moved to Mount Carmel before settling in the Lidderdale area. After her schooling, Mary remained home to help with housework.

Mary lived with her father and sister Anna for many joyful years. While living there she worked privately as a housekeeper for various residents in the Carroll area. Mary then changed career paths and worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Anthony Nursing Home. She made many great relationships with the residents and her fellow staff throughout the years. Mary’s greatest passion was the Catholic Church. She attended Mass nearly every day at Holy Spirit Church. She helped clean and maintain the Greteman Center, church altar, and other facilities. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and several other service organizations.

When Mary took a break from her church-related activities she enjoyed attending Kuemper Catholic High School sporting events.

Mary lived in her own apartment in Carroll until January 2012 when due to health concerns she moved to St. Anthony Nursing Home.

Mary is survived by her nephews Don (Marilyn) Wenck, Dale (Myrna) Wenck, and Ed (Charlene) Underberg; nieces Linda Riesselman, Judy (Chuck) Rudemacker and Joyce (Denny) Wilson; many great- and great-greatnieces, -nephews; other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Joseph (Velma) Underberg and sisters Anna Underberg and Marcella (Arthur) Wenck.
