Mavis Gerdes Kluver, 90, of Wall Lake, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Carnarvon.
Burial will be at the church cemetery under direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Farber & Otteman in Wall Lake.
Iona Mavis Larson was born March 3, 1923, in Wells County, rural Harvey, N.D., to Lewis and Dorothy (Raine) Larson.
She was baptized and confirmed in Wells County at the Lutheran Free Church and attended country school.
Her family moved to Iowa when she was starting high school. Mavis graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1941.
On August 17, 1942, Mavis was married to Bert R. Gerdes on her parents farm. Bert died Feb. 19, 1983, at age 67.
Mavis was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She was an important part of the dairy operation and kept the milk house spotless.
She was an animal lover and always had pet cats and dogs and a squirrel that would take food from her hand.
She loved spending time with her family.
Taking care of her flowers, crocheting and playing the Omni chord were some of her hobbies.
Mavis was the produce organizer at the Wall Lake Farm Festival and enjoyed making refreshments for 4-H activities.
She helped with devotions and enjoyed serving coffee at Twilight Acres.
On Dec. 29, 1989, Mavis married Henry Kluver. He died August 27, 1998.
She was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Carnarvon, taught Sunday school, and was an officer of the Presbyterian Women.
Survivors include her children: Berniece (John) Hendrick of Camden, Ariz.; Elaine Sue (Bill) Paysen of Kearney, Neb.; Marilyn Aschinger of Wall Lake; Jane (Lynn) Throndson of New Hampton; and Bruce (Rachel) Gerdes of Wall Lake; grandchildren: Gregory (Kimberly) Coil, Camille (Dr. Dwayne) Daniels, Chris (Toni) Aschinger, Cathy Aschinger (fiancé Tim Rardin), Chad (Dr. Amy) Paysen, Darin Throndson, Jackie (Scott) Bosacker, Josh Throndson, Reanna Gerdes, Danielle Zenz (fiancé Chris Janssen), and Sierra Gerdes; great-grandchildren: Andrew, Emily, and Ben Coil; Tyler, Sarah, Jacob, and Julia Daniels; Joe and Olivia Paysen; Shawna and D.J. Wiggins; Austin and Ashlie Aschinger; Brittany Throndson, Morgan and Ava Bosacker, and Emma Throndson; and many extended family members.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Bert Gerdes and Henry Kluver; two infant children; brothers Harold and Bob Larson; sister Madeline Lengeling; brother-in-law Delbert Lengeling; sister-in-law Mary Larson; son-in-law Robert Coil; and grandson Tyler McDonald.
