Marcella Brend, daughter of E.R. "Bill" and Anna (Tasler) Brend, was born June 23, 1941 at the family farm home west of Churdan, Iowa.

Marcy graduated from Lohrville High School in 1959. After graduation, Marcy moved to Des Moines and worked for Bankers Life Insurance and Burch Manufacturing.

On Aug. 27, 1960, Marcella married Dennis D. Holm at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines. Four children were born to this union. After her marriage ended, Marcy lived in St. Charles, Mo., and was employed at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis as a medical research assistant. In 1978, she and her family moved to Carroll, Iowa, and she worked at the Carroll Health Center and Carroll Manor as a medical assistant. In 2006, Marcy became a resident at the Black Hawk Care Center in Lake View, Iowa.

During her life, Marcy was a kind and compassionate person who was concerned with others and was always there to help when needed. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, having company over to visit, watching soap operas, having her coffee and diet Pepsi and loved her cat, Sky. Her grandchildren lovingly remember having fudge ice cream at her home and her bright blue eye shadow.

Marcy is survived by her four children: Bryan Holm and his wife, Colleen, of Grimes, Todd Holm of Gibsonton, Fla., Tad Holm of West Des Moines and Natalie Irlbeck of Carroll; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jo Kerns and her husband, Kelly, of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and two sisters-in-law, Betty and Phylis Brend of Lohrville.

She was preceded her in death by her parents; and two brothers, Richard "Dick" and Raymond Brend.
