Margaret "Peggy" Brotherton, 97, of Wall Lake, died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake. Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake. Burial will be at Wall Lake Cemetery under direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 31, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake with a vigil service at 7 p.m. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Twilight Acres Nursing Home in her memory.

Margaret Imogene Howard was born in Schaller to Charles Edward and Dora (Scheely) Howard on March 14, 1916. She graduated from Schaller High School in 1934.

On Dec. 31, 1934, Peggy was married Howard E. Brotherton at the Catholic church in Ida Grove.

This union was blessed with six children: Charles, Kenneth, Catherine, Judith, Janet and Victoria. They lived in Remsen where Howard worked for McGreger Brothers Lumber and in February 1943 moved to Wall Lake. Howard worked with his father in the lumber business, which he eventually purchased and operated. Peggy was a devoted wife and mother, caring for her growing family and keeping her home immaculate brought her great joy. She loved spending time with her grandkids. She was a great cook and loved to bake, and when the children were younger, she baked six to 12 loaves of bread a week. She loved her outside flowers and summer vacations at Okoboji. Peggy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joseph Guild.

Survivors include her children: Charles and wife Betty Brotherton of Wall Lake; Dr. Kenneth and wife Joanne Brotherton of Pittsford, N.Y.; Kaye and husband Dr. Bob Jungk of Platte City, Mo.; Judy and husband Dr. Don Kingfield of Algona; Janet and husband Merritt Olsen of Rapid City, S.D.; and Vicki and husband Larry Peyton of Sac City; 23 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Howard on October 28, 2006; brother Vernon Howard; sister Dott Brown; grandchildren: John Brotherton and Beth Brotherton Blum.
