Marlys Grotluschen, 88, of George, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Burnsville, Minnesota, while visiting her daughter Sherry.

Funeral was held Saturday, May 24, at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, George, Iowa, officiated by the Rev. Paul Soderquist.

Burial was at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, George.

Marlys was born Jan. 6, 1926, at the family farm at George, Iowa, to Henry and Christine (Hilbrands) Ubbinga. She attended country school near George and graduated from George Community High School in 1943. She married Erwin Grotluschen on Oct. 8, 1943, at Hope Reformed Church, George. She was a homemaker until Erwin's death in 1969, then became a secretary at George Community Schools. She was a lifelong resident of the George area.

Marlys was an active member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George serving as elder, church treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and "craft lady" for vacation Bible school. She was active in Pinochle Club,

George Women's Club, Christian Women's Club and Presbyterian Women's Organization. She enjoyed reading, cooking and baking, playing cards and other games, sewing and crafting. She was known as "Little Grandma" or "Grandma Marlys" by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other children in the George area.

Marlys is survived by sons Bob and Jane Grotluschen, Boulder, Colorado, and Glenn Grotluschen, Jefferson, Iowa; daughters Sherry Kix, Burnsville, Minnesota, Lori and Mark Bluml, Carroll, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister Beverly and Larry Ackerman, Arvada, Colorado; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Norma Ubbinga, George, and Don Grotluschen, George.

She was preceded in death by her husband Erwin Grotluschen, daughter Kristin, son-in-law Fred Kix and great-granddaughter Georgie Donahue.
