Martin Erickson, 87, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at his home in Auburn.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn with the Rev. Craig Zandi officiating, and burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery, Auburn.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City.

Martin Rudolph Erickson was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Randolph, Neb., to Rudolph and Martha (Hendrickson) Erickson. On May 25, 1944, he married Leola Hight, and together they celebrated 55 years of marriage. Martin owned and operated Martin's Welding in Auburn since 1955. In 1956 he became a member of the Auburn Fire Department, serving as fire chief from 1976-1978 and achieved an honorable lifetime membership for 50 years of service. He also served on the Auburn City Council for 20 years and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn.

Martin is survived by his children Earl (Lois) Erickson of Miami, Fla., Barb Thompson of Ankeny, Mike (Nikki) Erickson of Tama, and Janelle King of Auburn; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters Marjorie Rinkel of Norfolk, Neb., and Modene Pelchat of Sioux City, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leola in 1999, daughter Vicki Erickson, son-in-law Larry Thompson, and brothers Kenneth and Russell Erickson.
