Mary Ann, daughter of Henry and Anna (Meiners) Korwes, was born Nov. 28, 1909, on a farm near Roselle. She attended school in the Roselle School District. Mary then worked for area families to help care for their children and homes.
On Oct. 27, 1931, Mary eloped to Hooper, Neb., and married Carl Jennewein. One daughter was born to this union. The couple made their home in Carroll. Mary worked from home as a seamstress. She was extremely talented and had impeccable taste. She made many items including her own dresses with hats to match. Mary was a dedicated woman to her many talents. She gained many lifelong clients with her beautiful work. Mary was able to sew well into her 80s, and also enjoyed crocheting, tatting, cut work and many different needle crafts. Carl died on Sept. 23, 1995, and a few years later Mary moved to an assisted-living home in Johnston to be closer to her daughter.
Mary then moved to Bishop Drumm Nursing Home and received excellent care from the entire staff.
Mary is survived by her daughter Kathy (Craig) Hiatt of Clive, Iowa; siblings Joe Korwes of West Des Moines, Iowa, Gilbert (Mary Lou) Korwes of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Rose Nygard of South Sioux City, Neb., and Tillie Mathison of Harlan, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
