Mata Green, 89, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Woodlawn Christian Church in Lake City with burial at Lake City Cemetery.

Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City is assisting the family.

Mata Ellen Green was born June 27, 1924, in Lake City, Iowa, to Edward Chessar and Alda Mae (Hearrell) Blair. She graduated from high school in 1941, then attended summer school at Buena Vista College. On Sept. 10, 1944, Mata married Donald Green at Woodlawn Christian Church in Lake City.

She was a member of Woodlawn Church and active in the Christian Women's Fellowship as president, secretary, treasurer, group leader, study leader; she was also a Sunday school teacher and youth leader. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, serving as secretary and treasurer, a 4-H leader for eight years and longtime QC Club member, originally a rural neighborhood quilters club north of Lake City.

Mata is survived by her children: Jerry Green and his wife Linda of Rockwell City, Iowa; John Green of Fajardo, Puerto Rico; and Judy Green Newland of Tempe, Ariz.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Marie Stokes; brother Noel and his wife Anna; sisters-in-law Lois Blair, Joan Blair and Arlene Blair; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Lenore Hildreth; and brothers Fred, Jack, George, Bill, Bythel, Estelle and Merrold Blair.
