Mavis June Lange was born June 15, 1928, to Edward M. and Martha H. (Gerdes) Lange. She grew up in Wall Lake where she graduated from high school in 1945.

Mavis married Harold M. Bartlett on March 19, 1948, at the Presbyterian Church in Carroll, Iowa. From this union two children were born, Merlin and Marsha. She was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Wall Lake and was active in the Presbyterian Women's group.

Mavis was a busy mom, caring for her children and helping on the farm in her earlier years until 1959, when they moved into Wall Lake. She worked many years in Wall Lake at the Noodle Factory, Col-R-Corn and National Oats before retiring early in the 1980s to enjoy her grandchildren. She also worked at Dale's Place and Lake Lanes in Wall Lake. She liked to play cards particularly pinochle and cribbage. She loved watching her grandkids play sports and joking with them. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, enjoyed collecting spoons and loved it when her family would give her one from their travels, and loved her mashed potatoes and ketchup. She was a wonderful mom and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Mavis is survived by her son, Merlin Bartlett and wife MarLou of Chula Vista, Calif; daughter Marsha Bornhorst and husband Robert of Wall Lake; grandchildren: Angela (Fred) Richey of Terra Haute, Ind., Mark, Michael, and Ashley Bartlett of Chula Vista, Calif., Nicky (Tyson) Wessel of Lakemoor, Ill., Matt (Jenny) Bornhorst of Bennington, Neb., step-grandchildren: Robert Bornhorst Jr. and Scott Bornhorst of New Orleans, La.; six great-grandchildren: Aerial, Tabitha, Jasmine, Josiah, Kolton and Deklyn; brother-in-law Leon Pudenz of Carroll, Iowa; aunt Kurl Krohn of Texas; and many other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, on Dec. 26, 2009; father Edward Lange, mother Martha Jondle and stepfather Dale Jondle.
