Michael B. Brehmer, 52, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Twigg Funeral Home, Panora. Cremation will follow the visitation, and no funeral ceremony is planned. Burial of his cremains will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the family.

Michael, a son of Burdette and Jan (Jones) Brehmer, was born July 23, 1961, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from the Adel-DeSoto High School in 1980. He went to work for the Iowa Department of Transportation serving in different departments from 1980 to 1992. He then went on to graduate from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy on June 12, 1992. He was a motor vehicle enforcement officer from 1992 to 1999. From 1999 until 2007, Michael served as a police officer for the cities of Panora, Redfield, and Stuart. In September 2007, Michael worked as a security site supervisor for Wackenhut Security Corp. until 2010.

Michael enjoyed gardening, flowers, tinkering with things, and most of all spending time with his granddaughter Ava.

He is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Jeremy) Smith of Dexter; sons, Brandon and Zach Brehmer both of Panora; granddaughter, Ava Smith; stepfather and mother, Gene and Jan Hardy of Panora; sisters, Deborah (Mitch) Christensen of Ogden and Julie Schroeder of Templeton; stepmother, Janice Brehmer of Atlantic; five nephews; step-siblings, Steve (Kate) Hardy of Ames, Nancy Jennings of Des Moines, Ann (Tom) Wodniak of Des Moines and Jim Hardy of Des Moines; and his canine companion, Steve.

He was preceded in death by his father and a stepsister, Cindy Hardy Cash.
