Michael Hoffman, 54, died early Wednesday morning, June 26, 2013, at his residence near Willey, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 1, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Willey. Celebrant will be Father Tim Johnson. Mass servers will be Tallon Beiter and Hunter Hartwigsen. Music will be by Shelly Schreck and the St. Mary choir. Lector for the Mass will be Bill Schreck. Gift bearers will be Sumerlyn Hoffman, Matt Rupiper, Justin Hoffman and Tina Gehling. Eucharistic ministers will be Jan Handlos, and Leon and Donna Kennebeck. Honorary casket bearers will be Keith Rupiper, Dean Hoffman, Randy Halbur and Ben Tigges. Casket bearers will be Gary Riesberg, Ed McCoy, Marty Fay, Chris Hinners, Randy Hinners, Steve Hinners, Ken Tiojanco and Brian Carlson. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Willey.

Friends may call after 4:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Willey, where there will be a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. by St. Mary Parish.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be left at the church for the Agricultural Education Scholarship in memory of Mike Hoffman.

Born May 23, 1959, at Carroll, Iowa, Michael Andrew was a son of Andrew and Arlene (Miller) Hoffman. Mike attended St. Mary Grade School in Willey, later graduating from Kuemper Catholic High School with the Class of 1977. From an early age Mike was engaged actively in farming with his father, and continued the family farm operation as a grain and livestock farmer.

On Feb. 16, 1979, he married Rhonda Hinners at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. Following their marriage Mike and Rhonda made their home near Willey on the family farm where they raised their four children. He enjoyed vacationing in Cancun, John Deere farm equipment, and spending time with his entire family. Mike never missed an opportunity to socialize with his many friends and family.

Mike was a lifetime member St. Mary Catholic Church in Willey and was an active Carroll County Trustee of Pleasant Valley Township.

Mike is survived by his wife, Rhonda Hoffman of Willey; his children: Dawn Vinh and her husband Tran and their children, Alexis and Tatum of Phoenix, Ariz., Kristin Babb and her husband Brian and their son Christian of Chandler, Ariz., Jared Hoffman and fiancé Kelsie Grimsman and children, Grace, Sumerlyn and Brynlee of Halbur, and Nikki Hoffman and significant other Ryan Ludwig of Chandler, Ariz.; his mother, Arlene Eischeid of Carroll; his parents-in-law: Arden and Judy Hinners of Carroll; his twin brother: Mark (Sue) Hoffman of Carroll; his sisters: Deb (Gary) Riesberg of Halbur and Patty (Ed) McCoy of Clarion; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Roxie (Keith) Rupiper of Roselle, Cheryl (Ken) Tiojanco of Omaha, Neb., Steve Hinners of Arcadia, Randy (Laura) Hinners of Chandler, Ariz., Brenda (Marty) Fay of Waukee, Susan (Brian) Carlson of Elk Mound, Wis., and Chris (Tristan) Hinners of Arcadia; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Andrew J. Hoffman; his stepfather, Marvin Eischeid; and his brother Gerald, in infancy.
