Mike Johnson, 63, of Glidden, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at his home.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Deacon Gary Schon officiating. Music will be by the St. Elizabeth Seton choir with Mary Ross as organist and Mike Bolton as soloist. Casket bearers will be Russell Sparks, Alan Olerich, Bob Linde, Steve Mohr, Lynn Stork, Ron Clausen and Mike McClellan. Honorary casket bearers will be Johnny Pedersen, Roger Hartwigsen, Steve Clausen, Chris Hinners, Marke Rinker, Brian Best, Mike Chapman, John Gibson and Don Schon.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Gidden, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be left for Mike's family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com.

Born Aug. 9, 1950, in Carroll, Iowa, he was a son of Helmer and Luella (Ackerman) Johnson. Mike grew up in Glidden and graduated from Glidden-Ralston High School in 1968. He went to Boone Junior College and earned a degree in business administration. Following college he worked with his father refinishing furniture and antiques. He also owned and operated Doug and Mike's Bar in Glidden with his father-in-law. He was married to Sheila Douglas on Sept. 15, 1973, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale. Mike and Sheila owned and operated the Dairy Mart in Glidden for many years.

Mike coached 16-inch slow-pitch softball for several local teams over the years. He was voted businessman of the year in 1992 by the Glidden Men's Club. He enjoyed going to the casino, riding in his convertible, taking his family to Kansas City Chiefs games, and spending time with his family and many good friends.

Mike is survived by his wife Sheila of Glidden; three sons: Cory Johnson and his wife Megan of Grimes, Eric Johnson and his wife Kim of Clive and Reed Johnson and his wife Mollie of West Des Moines; six grandchildren: Brinn (9), Cael (6), Cade (2), Blake (4), Josie (3) and Rex (4 months); a brother-in-law Doyle Douglas and his wife Colleen of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a niece Samantha Erickson of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; a nephew Brad Douglas of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; and four cousins.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his mother- and father-in-law Shirl and Malinda Douglas.
