Neil Reising, 61 of rural Breda, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian burial was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda. Celebrant was Father Gary Snyder. Con-celebrant was Neil's nephew Father Chris Reising. Music was by Marilyn Hundling and the St. Bernard choir. Mass servers were Jacob Schaefer, Justin Schaefer and Michael Reising. Lector was Neil's brother Dean Reising. Gift bearers were Neil's grandchildren. Eucharistic ministers were Joan Bauer and Margie Galles. Honorary casket bearers were Keith Erickson, Marty Woerdehoff, Russ Boes, Steve Nieland, Henry Horst, Bob Theulen, Dick Myers and Kenny Schwanz. Casket bearers were Neil's nephews Rob Reising, Tim Reising, Tom Reising, Joe Reising, Gary Reisz and Lee Siegner. Burial was at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda with military honors conducted by the Breda American Legion.

Born Sept. 30, 1951, at Carroll, Iowa, Neil Ambrose Reising was a son of Wilfrid and Eunice (Stangl) Reising. He spent his lifetime in the Breda area and graduated in 1969 from St. Bernard High School. Following his formal education Neil served in the U.S. Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1974, then he returned to the Breda area. On July 5, 1975, he married Susan Zimmer at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail. The couple made their home northwest of Breda where Neil farmed and later went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in the Carroll office, retiring in 2009.

He most recently had been working at Hunters Den in Arcadia. Neil enjoyed living on the farm, toying with his tractors, golfing, bowling, and his dog Smokey. Neil's greatest joy was his family. This past year he was proud to travel to North Carolina for the wedding of his daughter Brenda. Neil was a member of Breda American Legion, Fred F. and Norman J. Bruning Post 607.

Neil is survived by his children: Jason (Shannon) Reising of Lidderdale, Melissa (Shawn) Flynn of Wall Lake, Monica Reising of Ames, Laura (Michael) Schaefer of Carroll and Brenda (Walter III) Seaman of Ames; his grandchildren: Grace and Lucas Reising, Jaron and Karli Flynn, and Melinda and Myli Schaefer; his mother, Eunice Reising of Breda; his sister, Marikay Kirsh of Urbandale; his brother, Dean (Carmen) Reising of Des Moines; his mother-in-law, Betty Zimmer of Boyer; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Donna (Roger) Galles of Remsen, Bob Reisz of Denison, Francis (Vicki) Zimmer of Deloit, Charles (Pat) Zimmer of Texas, Dale (Judy) Zimmer of Boyer, Mary Jane (Joe) Siegner of Vail and Joan (Brent) Bauer of Audubon; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Neil was preceded in death by his father; his wife Susan in 1988; his grandson, Jacob Reising; his brother John Reising; his father-in-law, Donald "Cactus" Zimmer; and his sister-in-law, Karen Reisz.
