Nicole Marie O’Tool, 34, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at home surrounded by her loved ones. She passed away with the love and support of friends and family. A private burial service at Glendale cemetery is planned.

Iles-Westover Chapel in Des Moines was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Nicole loved her family and friends. Her ability to speak her mind and her sense of humor will be missed. Nicole enjoyed sporting events, attending Iowa State University football games and all other Cyclone events. Nicole enjoyed playing soccer. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her daughter, Maggie, 5, and running with her dog, Bernie.

Nicole was born March 18, 1984, in Dallas, Texas, to Dean and Janet (Wurzer) O’Tool. Dean is formerly from Scranton and Janet from Coon Rapids. Nicole graduated from Hoover High School in Des Moines in 2002. She attained her bachelor of science in biology from Iowa State University in 2006. She went on to receive her pharmacy degree from Creighton University in Omaha in 2010. She was employed at Walgreens. Nicole was awarded a certificate of appreciation for saving a life using CPR.

Nicole is survived by her daughter, Maggie Ostbloom of Des Moines; parents, Dean and Janet (Wurzer) O’Tool of Des Moines; her siblings, Sean (Des Moines) and Keri (Cam Walker); and niece, Julia Walker (Florida); her aunts and uncles, Gary (Pat) Wurzer, Richard Wurzer, Deb (Tom) Walker, Renee Wurzer, Joe (Ines) Wurzer, Lisa (Mark) Hammer, Mary (Mark) Schmitz and Jane (Dave) Meiners, Marlene Hupp, Lois (John) Zimmerman, Larry (Sandra) O’Tool; and her cousins.

She was preceded in death by her uncles and aunt, Leon Wurzer, Lorne Hupp and Sharon Goldin; and her grandparents, Lawrence and Dorothy O’Tool and Leon and Betty Wurzer.
