Paul “Pete” Edward Nordhues, 85, of Spalding, Neb. Died Sunday evening, March 25, 2012 at his home.

Mass of the Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 29 at St. Michael Catholic Parish Center in Spalding with Fr. Don Buhrman and Fr. Jim Murphy officiating.

Interment followed at St. Michael’s Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #299.

Paul “Pete” Edward Nordhues, the son of Alex and Anna (Moerson) Nordhues was born April 2, 1926 on the family farm south of Greeley, Neb.

He was baptized at Sacred Heart Church in Greeley and attended Greeley Sacred Heart School until the 11th grade.

Pete enlisted in the United States Navy on Sept. 11, 1943, served in the Pacific Theatre, and was honorably discharged on May 16, 1949.

Pete was united in marriage to Dorthy A. Glaser on May 17, 1948 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding, Neb. The couple lived in Burwell and Bassett where he worked as a butcher in Bassett before moving back to the Spalding area in 1949.

They lived and farmed five miles west of Spalding where he also was a seed corn dealer for DeKalb.

In 1985 they moved into Spalding where Pete worked as a meat cutting specialist at Esch Grocery Store from 1984 until the early 2000s. The past 10 years he’s worked as a gas station attendant at T&A in Spalding.

He enjoyed many hobbies including traditional farming and orchard farming.

Most recently he enjoyed bowling, fishing and golfing.

He was very involved in his community being a member and past commander of American Legion post #299 and Men’s Club where he was president at the time the Parish Center was built.

Pete also held office on the Greeley County fair board for 15 years and was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding.

Pete is survived by his wife Dorthy; nine daughters: Jeanne (Wayne) Riesberg of Carroll; Joann Dugan of O’Neill, Neb.; Arlene (Tom) Molczyk of Comstock, Neb.; Mary (James) Auten of Cedar Rapids, Neb.; Peggy (Dan) Ray of Spalding Neb.; Susie (David) Sloss of Lincoln, Neb.; Elaine Nordhues and Bryan Jones of Queen Creek, Ariz.; Emily (Lee) Brester of Queen Creek, Ariz.; Julie (Jeff) Carraher of Spalding, Neb.; three sons: Paul T. (Jean) of Bartlett, Neb.; Nick (Nancy) of Miller, Neb.; Mark (Ranottta) of Kearney, Neb.; 34 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 1 brother: Alex (Gloria) Nordhues of Vaciville, Calif.; one sister: Ann Johnson of Omaha, Neb.; Special Nephew Jim (Deb) Eschliman or Ericson and Special Niece Nancy Diesner of St. Paul.

Also are in-laws: Joe Fenton of O’Neill, Helen Nordhues and Edith Nordhues of Greeley, Neb.; and Illadean Nordhues of Fla.

He was preceded ind eath by his parents, infant daughter Elizabeth Ruth; grandaughter Tacy Riesberg, grandson Ivan Carraher, son-in-law: Bradley Dugan, brothers: John, Frank and Bill; sisters Elizabeth Scott, Theresa Fenton and Marie Nordhues.
