Raymond Jorgensen, 81, of Carroll, died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott, assisted by Deacon Jim McAllister. Music will be by Marcy Anderson and the St. Lawrence choir with Sherry Loughran as cantor. Lector will be Kenneth Nees. Gift bearers will be Ray's nieces and nephews. Eucharistic ministers will be Lorin Baumhover and Kenneth Nees. Casket bearers will be David Baumhover, Martin Buinicki, Dan Merry, Steve Nees, Joe Nees and Mike Nees. Burial will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.

Friends may call after 4:30 p.m. Monday at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian wake service at 6:30 p.m.

The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church at 9 a.m. Tuesday when visitation will resume. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for the Carroll Food Pantry or New Hope Village.

Born July 19, 1932, in rural Luverne, N.D., Raymond was a son of Hans and Dagny Jorgensen. Ray attended country school and later graduated from high school in Luverne. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 until his honorable discharge. While in the Navy, Ray converted to the Catholic faith and later attended Seminary at Mount Calvary in Marathon, Wis., until 1965.

On Sept. 17, 1966, Ray married Winifred Baumhover in Aurora, Colo. The couple raised their three children in Colorado, where he worked for the State of Colorado as a hearings officer until his retirement in 1996. Ray and Wini moved to the Carroll community in 2000. He loved reading, gardening, and will always be remembered as a loving husband and father with a strong devotion to his faith. Ray was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and the Secular Franciscans.

Ray is survived by his wife Winifred "Wini" Jorgensen of Carroll; his sons: Eric Raymond Jorgensen of Parker, Colo.; his granddaughter, Anna Hoard; Mike Jorgensen and his partner Kate Dale, and her children, Maggie and Addie of Lisbon; his siblings: Jens (Anne) Jorgensen of Fort Myers, Fla., Ruth Berger of Valley City, N.D., Rose Mary (Duane) Senn of Aurora, Colo., Alvin (Josie) Jorgensen of Hope, N.D., and Beverly (Jim) McAllister of Sanborn, N.D.; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Kenneth Nees of Mount Carmel, Virgil (Mary) Baumhover of Carroll, Jim (Marie) Baumhover of Carroll, Betty (Jerry) Klocke of Carroll, Lenore (Richard) Fiedler of Scranton, Anita (Francis) Fiedler of Estes Park, Colo., Lorin (Lorraine) Baumhover of Boone, N.C., and Roger (Mary) Baumhover of St. Paul, Minn.; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jonell Jorgensen in 1990; his sister, Myrtle Madsen; and his brothers: Frank and Kenny Jorgensen.
