Richard Robert Masching, 56, of Flower Mound, Texas, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, in Plano, Texas.
Funeral was Friday, April 4, in Flower Mound.
Flower Mound Family Funeral Home in Flower Mound was in charge of arrangements.
Rick was born March 26, 1958, in Carroll, Iowa, to Edwin and Norma (Muhlbauer) Masching.
He attended Holy Spirit Catholic Grade School and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll in 1976. He then attended Iowa State University in Ames, receiving a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1981.
He married Mary Kay Vicarius on Aug. 25, 1979, in Carroll.
After graduating from Iowa State, Rick worked for the State of Iowa as a property tax auditor for six years. For the next 27 years, Rick was with GTE/Verizon as a property tax auditor and property tax director. Rick was very well respected and an expert in his field.
He lived in Ames, Huxley and Marshalltown, Iowa; Noblesville (Indianapolis), Ind.; and Flower Mound (Dallas), Texas.
Rick's passions were golf and woodworking. He spent the last year and a half remodeling his kids' homes and helping friends and family with home-improvement projects.
Rick is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Masching, of Flower Mound, Texas; sons, Nick Masching of Corinth, Texas, Alex Masching and Leah Ezzell of Carrollton, Texas; his daughter, Rashelle and Derek LaRoche of Arlington, Texas; two grandchildren, Jeremy Garcia and Alexa LaRoche; his brothers, Kevin Masching of Lake View, Iowa, and Mike and Renee Masching of Omaha, Neb.; his sisters, Barb and Rich Golwitzer of Omaha, Neb., and Pat and Paul Wiedemeier of Clive, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norma and Edwin Masching.
