Rita Hackfort, 91, of Carroll, died Tuesday evening, May 13, 2014, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 16, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. Con-celebrant will be Father Steven Brodersen. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit choir. Lectors will be Rita's granddaughters Lynn Marie Ernst, Alexa Hackfort and Ann Danner. Gift bearers will be Rita's granddaughters Angela Gengler, Kristen Halbur and Tamara Douglas. Eucharistic ministers will be Karen Pietig and Gary Becker. Casket bearers will be Rita's grandsons Douglas Becker, Matthew Gengler, Phillip Gengler, Michael Hackfort, Mark Hackfort, Gregory Hackfort, Bryan Hackfort, Brandon Hackfort, Aaron Gallagher, Nathaniel Gallagher and Austin Hackfort. The Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas will form an honor guard for the Mass. Burial will be at Holy Angels Cemetery in Roselle.

Friends may call beginning at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. by the Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a Christian wake service at 6:30 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 a.m. Friday when visitation will resume.

Born Sept. 18, 1922, near Roselle, Iowa, Rita was a daughter of Michael and Frances (Hoffman) Sibenaller. She grew up in the Roselle area, attending Holy Angels School. On Aug. 13, 1946, in a double wedding with her sister, Helen, she married Lambert Hackfort at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle with her brother Father Joseph Sibenaller, S.J., celebrating the marriages. Rita was a very dedicated homemaker, helping with the farming operation. She enjoyed gardening, baking and playing cards. Rita frequently volunteered at New Hope Village in Carroll. She had a very strong faith in God, and would always help those in need. Rita was a former member of Holy Angels Parish, and the Holy Angels Choir, she was an active member in the Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll.

Rita is survived by her children: Maureen (Gary) Becker of Perry, Marilyn (Robert L.) Gengler of Oyens, Leon (Betty) Hackfort of Carroll, Myra (Richard) Roufs of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Lambert "Bert" (Jane) Hackfort of Carroll, Mavis (Jerry) Anders of Kansas City, Missouri, and Loras (Karen) Hackfort of Bettendorf; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Lawrence (Mary Ann) Sibenaller of Carroll, Anita Williams of Austin, Minnesota, and Olga Sibenaller of St. Louis, Missouri; her sister-in-laws: Clara Sibenaller of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Lois Sibenaller of Earling, and Mercedes Fasbender of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lambert on Oct. 20, 1997; a grandchild-in-law, Amy Gentry-Becker; her siblings: Father Joseph Sibenaller, S.J., Catherine Steffes, Ed Sibenaller, Helen Williams, Gregory Sibenaller, Eugene Sibenaller and two siblings in infancy.
