Robert Sterner, 84, of Willey died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at St. Mary's Church in Willey. The Celebrant will be Reverend Timothy Johnson.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at Ohde Twit Funeral Home in Carroll, where there will be a Rosary at 4 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus and a prayer service at 6 p.m. Music will be "Here I Am, Lord," "Amazing Grace," "Shall We Gather at the River," and "How Great Thou Art" by St. Mary's Choir, with Accompanist Barb Danner. Lector for the mass will be LaVerne Greving. Gift bearers will be Kenedy Schaefer, Shelby Schaefer and Destiny Schaefer. Eucharistic ministers will be Mary Lou Schultes and Lorena Grossman. Casket Bearers are LaVerne Greving, Marty Greving, Daryl Quandt, David Hoffman, Bill Danner and Bill Bauer.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Willey, with Military Honors by the American Legion DeWitt-Loustaunau Post 20.

Robert Albert, son of Albert and Gertrude (Becker) Sterner, was born May 15, 1929, on the family farm Southeast of Willey. He attended grade school near Willey and graduated from Carroll High School in 1946. Bob helped his father farm after school until 1951 when he enlisted in the Army. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
Robert was united in marriage with Bessie Garcia on Sep. 26, 1953 in an Army Chapel in Denver, Colo. Two children were born to this union. Bob farmed near Willey for most of his life. He retired at the age of 62 but never truly stopped working. His favorite hobby was farming and was known for his work ethic. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion DeWitt-Loustaunau Post 20 in Dedham. Bob enjoyed playing cards, watching TV, listening to western music, and especially spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bob was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease around 2002 and suffered from COPD. He was able to remain at home near Willey with the loving care of his wife and family
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bessie Sterner of Willey; daughter Susan and husband John Chism of St. Cloud, Fla; grandchildren: Todd Sterner of Willey, Sarah Sterner and boyfriend Sebastian Metheny of Carroll, Alicia (Sterner) Currera and wife Cortney of Omaha, Neb., and Christian Sterner of Carroll; step-grandchildren: Michael Halbur and wife Mandy (Wells) of Dubuque, Holly (Halbur) Schaefer and husband Brian of Carroll, and Amanda Halbur and boyfriend Adam Wempe of Carroll; great-grandchildren: Kylesa Metheny, Kenedy, Shelby and Destiny Schaefer, and Jaxon Halbur; along with many other relatives and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Gertrude Sterner and his son David Sterner in 2012.
