Roene (Stewart) Hiler, 84, of Lake City, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014, after a near 20-year battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City, preceded by a visitation at 10 a.m. She donated her body for research to the University of Iowa, so there will be no viewing.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SMCH Hospice, Attn: Hospice, 1301 W Main Street, Lake City, Iowa 51449.
Roene Fae Hiler was born July 30, 1929, in Audubon County, Iowa, to Samuel and Mabel (Oakley) Stewart. On Sept. 5, 1946, she was married to Marvin Hiler in Humboldt, Iowa.
Roene is survived by her daughters, Mary (Robert) Hadsall of Ankeny, Iowa, Marva (Rob) Sosh of Herber Springs, Ark., and Roxanne Payne of Ames, Iowa; son Richard Hiler of Ames, Iowa; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; her sisters Ruby (Marvin) Byriel of Audubon, Iowa, and Martha (Luke) Dawson of Warner Robins, Ga.; and sisters-in-law Maxine Stewart of Auburn, Iowa, and Delores Stewart of Des Moines, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin in 1983; brothers John "Jack," Willard and Robert; and sister-in-law Donna Stewart.
