Romayne John Sporrer, 67, of Glidden, Iowa, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Deacon Gary Schon of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden officiating.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at the funeral home where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Casket bearers will be Romayne's nephews. Honorary casket bearer will be Danny Moore.

Burial will be at Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.

Born April 10, 1946, in Carroll, Iowa, he was a son of John L. and Elvira (Reinart) Sporrer. Romayne has lived in Glidden since moving from Carroll in 1964. He married Audrey Beckman in 1968, and to this union was born a daughter Tamara. He had worked construction after high school until present. He worked many years for Hoffmann Construction and recently for local contractors. Romayne enjoyed his Corvette, riding his motorcycle, following NASCAR, and following pro football.

Romayne is survived by a daughter Tamara Reid and her husband Michael of Pensacola, Fla.; eight grandchildren: Rebecca, Daniel, Hannah, Moriah, Sarah, Julia, Leah and Andrew, all of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters: Geri Thobe and her husband Larry of Auburn, Iowa, and Julie Cale of Exira, Iowa, a sister-in-law Kathy Sporrer of Glidden; and several nieces and nephews.

Romayne was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Paul Sporrer in 1989, a sister Mary Louise in infancy, and a brother-in-law Frank Cale.
