Shirley I. Kokenge, 89, of Albuquerque, N.M., since 1972. died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013.
Services will be at at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at French Funerals & Cremation, 7121 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque. Friends may visit one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Shirley I. Kokenge was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Atlantic, Iowa, and attended schools in Shenandoah, Iowa. She married Ernest N. Kokenge on Oct. 4, 1947, and the couple made their home in Carroll, Iowa, until moving to Albuquerque in 1972. She enjoyed her family, her homes, reading, golf, bowling, gardening and foraging for treasures at estate and garage sales.
She is survived by her children, Sandy Bushman and husband, Larry of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Lynne Kokenge of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter-in-law Valerie Kokenge of Tijeras, N.M.; grandchildren Brad Bushman and his wife Shannon, Kimberly Zueter, Ashley Artzer and her husband Shane, Ross Kokenge, Sheila Kokenge and Trevor Kokenge; and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Kokenge was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Kokenge; son Scott Kokenge; sisters Muriel Sorenson, Cleo Davidson, Patricia Johnson and Winona Lynch; and brother David Smith.
