Virginia Isabelle Hadden Minnehan, 88, died March 26, 2012, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital, Carroll.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 30 at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church in Churdan, with burial at St. Patrick’s on Cedar.
The family will greet friends from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29 at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church. There will be a 4 p.m Rosary service and 7 p.m. vigil service.
A daughter of Charles ‘Hap’ and Margaret Monahan Hadden, Mrs. Minnehan was born on Sept. 30, 1923, in Rensselaer, Ind.
Virginia graduated from Churdan High School and St. Anthony’s School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She continued nursing at St. Anthony’s Hospital until devoting herself full-time to family, church and community.
Virginia Hadden was united in marriage to Robert Minnehan at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church on Nov. 18, 1947.
After their marriage, they were the third generation to raise their family on what is Minnehan Family Farms.
Virginia was active as in the Catholic Daughters of America, Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and Rosary Society assuming numerous leadership roles at the parish and diocesan levels. As an active member of the Churdan community, she co-chaired the Churdan Centennial Celebration and the St. Patrick’s Church Centennial.
She was a board member of the Churdan Public Library for more than 35 years. As a board member and officer of Citizens United to Save the Valley, she was part of a small but devoted group whose purpose was to preserve and maintain the Raccoon River watershed.
Mrs. Minnehan is survived by two daughters: Mary Moothart and her husband, Tim, of Dubuque; JoAnne Lonergan, and her husband, John, of Clive; and one son, Mike Minnehan, and his wife, Shari, of Churdan; eight grandchildren, Cara Droege, Matt Moothart, Michael Moothart, Tom Moothart, Ryan Minnehan, Sean Minnehan, Patrick Minnehan and Makayla Minnehan; four great-grandchildren, Trayton Minnehan, Peyton Minnehan, Emmett Minnehan and Connor Droege.
She is also survived by four sisters-in-law, Leona Hadden of Carroll, Maxine Whiting of Lake City, Rosella Eischeid of Tucson, Ariz., and Norine Carroll Coppell of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 2008; her parents, Charles and Margaret Hadden; a brother, Edward, and granddaughter, Kristen Moothart.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Churdan Library or St. Patrick’s Church or Cedar Historical Fund.
